The Highland Council resolved to grant outline planning permission for the IABP master plan in January 2010. This was achievable due to the careful preparation of sensitive yet contemporary landscaping and architectural design proposals across the IABP site.
The Business Park has been designed to respect the topography and current land uses, and comprises 4 distinct zones.
To the north west is the Woodland zone, accommodating a mix of business and industrial uses around an orbital service road.
The adjacent Landscaped zone forms an environmentally enhanced and landscaped link between the Woodland Zone to the north and the Tornagrain zone to the south. Located on the edge of this zone along the main airport access road are hotel and other high profile business location opportunities.
The Tornagrain zone, located between the Airport and the A96 is characterised by a more structured layout reflecting its position alongside both the trunk road and adjacent to the proposed new town of Tornagrain. The masterplan design provides for a full integration with Tornagrain to create a truly synergised community.
The Airside zone focusses on airport related business generation, including uses such as logistics and aircraft maintenance.
The masterplanners remit has been to deliver a design for a technologically advanced 21st century sustainable business environment to compliment the stunning location. The design reflects the stakeholders commitment to promoting IABP to enhance the long term social, economic and environmental sustainability of the area, as well as providing a vibrant commercial hub that will build on the established success of Inverness and its environs.
